Varella 2.0 Beanie 100% Baby Merino Wool Zinnias Thin Autumn–Spring
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The thin VARELLA 2.0 merino wool beanie in Zinnias is an elongated beanie without a fold-up brim, made from low-bulk hand-dyed yarn and suited to the transitional autumn/spring season. To check whether a specific piece is ready to ship or made to order, click your selected size.
When this style is a good choice
This merino beanie works well if you are looking for a lightweight hat for cooler, but not extremely frosty days, and if you like an elongated shape with a softly slouching back. The Zinnias colourway combines warm shades of red and burgundy with a subtle marled effect, so it is a good option if you want a stronger colour accent in a classic beanie shape. It may not be the best fit if you need a very thick winter hat for long periods outdoors in freezing weather or if you prefer completely even, uniform colour throughout the knit.
Feel against the skin and material
The beanie is made from yarn composed of 75% merino wool and 25% polyamide, with a smooth surface and no fuzzy halo, which helps reduce the feeling of scratchiness and may also suit more sensitive scalps. The added synthetic fibre improves elasticity and helps the beanie hold its shape longer with frequent wear. The yarn used is certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, which may be useful information if you pay attention to material testing standards.
To maintain the knit properly, hand washing is required; detailed guidance can be found in our wool care guide.
Shape and fit
VARELLA 2.0 is a classic beanie without a fold-up brim in an elongated shape that creates a characteristic soft slouch at the back when worn. The whole piece is made in a single 1x1 rib on a manual knitting machine, so the fabric stretches well around the head and adapts to its shape without strong pressure. Its low thickness and lack of a folded brim mean it fits easily under a hood or a lightweight hooded jacket, but it is not intended to act as a highly insulating layer in extreme cold.
How this beanie performs in everyday wear
- Low-bulk merino knit – the beanie is lightweight and suitable as a transitional merino beanie for windy days in autumn and spring, without an overheating feel.
- All-over rib stitch – the knit adjusts flexibly to the head, which helps reduce the risk of slipping during movement.
- Polyamide in the fibre blend – the beanie stretches out less and keeps its shape better with frequent wear, although resistance to pilling remains moderate.
- Hand-dyed yarn – each beanie has a unique arrangement of red and burgundy shades, so even a repeat order will not look visually identical.
- Smooth, non-fuzzy knit surface – the beanie slips easily under a hood or urban helmet, but it does not give the fluffy, cocooning effect of very lofty yarns.
- Autumn/spring season – this merino wool beanie is practical in temperatures from cool to moderately cold, while for long periods in freezing weather it may need an extra layer.
- Made by hand on a knitting machine – the fine, even knit gives a neat look and a consistent shape, with the small variations typical of handmade work.
Details and matching options
The beanie is finished with a NitkoweLove faux leather label, which can be unfastened for washing if needed, making care easier without risking damage to the patch. To create a coordinated set for cooler weather, you can choose matching shawls, scarves or snoods from the matching wool accessories section, making it easier to put together neck and head coverage for similar weather conditions.
