| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The VARELLA 2.0 Forest Night thin merino wool beanie is a lightweight handmade beanie with a slightly extended back, suitable for the transitional seasons and for sensitive skin. To check whether a specific piece is ready to ship or made to order, click your chosen size.
Where the VARELLA 2.0 Forest Night beanie works best
This style is suitable for autumn and spring, when you want ear coverage without overheating. It works well for everyday wear in the city, with a jacket or coat, if you are looking for a thin merino beanie in a calm, dark green shade. It is not the best choice for hard frosts or for those who prefer very thick, fluffy knits with a turn-up brim.
Material and skin feel
The beanie is made from yarn composed of 75% merino wool and 25% polyamide, hand-dyed in Forest Night shades (deep, muted greens with darker transitions). The smooth, non-fuzzy surface and the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification support comfort for sensitive skin, without the scratchiness some wools can have. If you are extremely sensitive to any kind of wool, you may still find it uncomfortable, in which case a thin cotton headband underneath may be worth considering.
Shape and fit
VARELLA 2.0 is a classic beanie without a turn-up brim, with a gently extended back. The single rib structure helps the knit sit securely around the head and keeps it flexible rather than stiff, so it settles easily over both shorter and longer hair. Its thin weight means it fits under a hood or helmet without feeling bulky; in very strong wind, it may feel less protective than thicker double-layer styles.
How VARELLA 2.0 performs in everyday wear
- Low knit thickness – provides lighter warmth on cool but not freezing days, without overheating in milder moments.
- Single rib throughout – helps keep the beanie stable on the head, reducing the chance of it slipping when walking or cycling.
- Polyamide added to the yarn – improves the fabric’s elasticity, helping the beanie keep its shape longer with frequent putting on and taking off.
- Hand-dyed Forest Night colourway – creates subtle shifts between green and darker tones, which can make creases or minor pilling less visible than on solid colours.
- Moderate resistance to pilling – with intensive everyday wear, a light fuzz may appear over time, which can be reduced with careful use and proper care.
- Smooth, non-hairy texture – makes it easier to wear the beanie under a hood or over-ear headphones without catching on clothing details.
- Handmade on a knitting machine – this allows me to control the stitch density, resulting in even coverage around the head without thicker spots.
Details and matching accessories
The beanie has a clean finish with no turn-up brim and no added embellishments, which makes it easy to pair with different jackets and scarves. To create a coordinated transitional-season set, you can choose a shawl, snood or scarf from the selection of matching shawls, wraps and snoods. Feel free to contact me – I may be able to make accessories in the same shade.
