VARELLA Baby Merino Wool Helmet Liner Beanie 100% Choose Colour
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |

Who it’s for / when it works well / when it may not
The VARELLA helmet beanie is for those who need a thin yet warm layer under a cycling or safety helmet and want to avoid overheating. It works well for outdoor activity on cold days and anywhere a close fit matters without extra bulk. It can also be worn every day as a classic plain merino beanie if you like a shorter, fitted shape. It may not be the right choice if you are looking for a very thick, cocooning beanie with a turn-up brim or noticeable slouch at the top.
Material and skin contact
The beanie is made from 100% baby merino wool in a medium-weight yarn, with two layers of knit, which gives noticeable warmth while keeping the overall volume low. The smooth surface and soft yarn were chosen with sensitive skin in mind; the material is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I and is also suitable for longer, all-day contact with the skin. The wool has medium resistance to pilling, so with frequent wear it is worth limiting friction, for example against Velcro or rough helmet parts.
Before washing, it is worth taking a look at the short guide to wool care to help preserve the shape and texture of the knit for longer.
Shape and fit
This is a classic, plain beanie without a folded brim, designed as a shorter version of the VARELLA model so it sits comfortably under a helmet and does not come down over the eyes. The double layer of knit runs through the full length, so the ears and forehead are covered evenly, without a thicker edge. The beanie fits the head well and stays in place during movement, while still allowing the skin to breathe. In the photos it is shown on a mannequin with a smaller-than-standard head circumference, so in real wear it will sit more closely and feel more fitted.
Practical features
- Double layer of knit throughout – increases the feeling of warmth under a helmet and helps reduce wind reaching sensitive areas.
- Medium thickness and low bulk – make it easier to put on a helmet comfortably without excessive pressure or adjusting the straps every time.
- Flexible, smooth knit – adapts to the shape of the head, so the beanie stays in place when bending down or moving actively.
- Suitable for sensitive skin contact – allows you to wear the beanie without an extra headband underneath, which means fewer layers under the helmet.
- Medium resistance to pilling – keeps a neat appearance in normal use, but with frequent wear under a rough helmet it may need gentler handling.
- Autumn–winter merino wool – suitable from cold, windy days to cooler mornings, without the feel of a heavy, chunky beanie.
- Hand washing – helps control shrinkage and keep the fibres springy, but does require a little care after an intensive season of wear.
Extras
The beanie is finished with a small eco-leather label that can be unclipped for washing, which makes care easier without risking distortion of the trim. To create a practical set for colder days, you can also choose a snood from the matching shawls, wraps and snoods section, preferably in merino wool. I can make it in exactly the same colour :)
