VARELLA Turn-Up Merino Beanie 100% Baby Merino 63 Sand
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
VARELLA is a medium-weight 100% Baby Merino beanie for autumn and winter, with a turn-up brim and a smooth knit surface. Availability depends on the size selected — click your chosen variant to check whether the beanie is ready to ship or made to order.
For everyday wear and the colder season
This style works well when you want a merino beanie for regular wear on colder days, without extra bulk or a fuzzy surface. The sandy shade, somewhere between beige, ecru and off-white, pairs easily with both lighter and darker outerwear. It is a good choice for autumn and winter if you are looking for a natural fibre composition and a calm, simple look. If you need a very thick beanie for hard frost or a distinctly loose fit, this version may not give that effect.
Yarn and feel against the skin
I used 100% Baby Merino here — a merino yarn chosen for gentle contact with the skin. From my experience, the smooth, non-hairy knit and this type of wool also work well for people who are usually cautious about wool accessories.
It is still wool, so it needs careful care — a short guide is here: wool care.
How it fits on the head
The beanie shape with a turn-up brim sits close to the head, but without feeling rigid. The ribbed knit structure stretches as you put it on, so the fit adapts more flexibly than a smooth beanie without ribbing. The turn-up gives a cleaner line around the forehead and ears, and the overall look stays simple and easy to wear every day. This is a style for those who prefer a neater fit rather than a strongly oversized one.
What this means in use
- 100% Baby Merino – gives you contact with a natural fibre without added blends, which matters to many people when choosing a beanie worn close to the skin.
- Medium weight – makes the beanie suitable for autumn and winter, but it is not as substantial as styles designed especially for very cold weather.
- Smooth surface without fuzz – the beanie has a cleaner visual finish and does not have the fluffy, brushed look of some knits.
- Single rib knit – adds elasticity, so the shape adjusts more easily in wear and movement.
- Turn-up brim – adds an extra layer at the bottom, so the forehead and ears are covered more fully than in a style without a folded brim.
- Handmade on a knitting machine – allows me to control stitch consistency and the finish of the completed beanie.
- Pilling resistance: medium – with regular use, signs of the fibre’s natural wear may appear, which is worth keeping in mind when choosing merino wool.
Extras and matching pieces
If you would like to change the character of this style, you can choose a beanie with pom-pom in the same colour and made from the same yarn. To complete the set, you can also look at matching shawls, wraps and snoods if you want a coordinated merino set.
