VARELLA Merino Wool Beanie 100 Syreni Śpiew
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
VARELLA is a lightweight merino wool beanie made from 100% Baby Merino, with a smooth surface and an extended back, suitable for autumn and spring. Availability depends on the size selected — click your chosen size to check whether this style is ready to ship or made to order.
When it is worth choosing this beanie
This style is for those looking for a light head covering for cooler in-between days and who prefer a calmer, less structured shape without a turn-up brim. It works well when comfort during longer wear matters, and when you want a material described as suitable for sensitive skin. Because of its low thickness, it is a good choice for autumn and spring rather than for severe frost. The Syreni Śpiew colour combines light blue with an irregular print, so it looks less uniform than a classic solid-colour beanie.
Yarn and feel against the skin
I used 100% Baby Merino, a finer type of merino wool, made from yarn certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100. The knit is smooth, without a fuzzy finish, and the material itself is described as suitable for sensitive skin, so this lightweight merino beanie usually works well in direct contact with the skin too.
Like any wool that requires hand washing, it needs careful care; you can find a short guide here: wool care.
Shape and how it sits
This is a beanie with a classic line, but with a more relaxed back that sits more loosely than shorter, closer-fitting styles. The lack of a turn-up brim means a visually lower edge and fewer layers at the forehead, which gives the whole piece a lighter look. The single rib helps the beanie adapt to the shape of the head without creating a stiff effect. If you are looking for stronger ear coverage and an extra layer at the edge, a beanie with a turn-up brim will be a better option.
What it offers in everyday wear
- Lightweight thickness – better suited to the transitional season than to full winter.
- 100% Baby Merino – the material gives a soft feel against the skin and helps reduce the risk of discomfort for those sensitive to wool itch.
- Smooth knit surface without fuzz – the beanie does not have a fluffy look and appears cleaner and more minimal.
- Single rib – the knit stretches when putting it on, so it adjusts better to the shape of the head.
- No turn-up brim – the style stays visually lighter and less layered at the forehead.
- Extended back – the beanie sits more loosely at the back instead of ending close to the head.
- Handmade on a knitting machine – this allows me to keep the stitch consistent and the finishing neat in each piece.
Matching accessories
If you would like to add a matching pom-pom, you can choose one made from the same yarn as the beanie, in a coordinated colour finish. Matching shawls, wraps and snoods also work well with it if you want a set in a similar style. The yarn has medium resistance to pilling, so with regular wear it is worth allowing for natural signs of use typical of delicate merino wool.
