MARI Handmade Beanie Baby Alpaca and Mohair 1216/4015 Burgundy Red
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The MARI turn-up beanie is a handmade, lightweight beanie made from baby alpaca with an added mohair-and-silk thread, designed for the in-between seasons with a distinctly fluffy texture in deep burgundy red. Availability: pieces from this series are sent from the studio; after selecting your size, please check whether the beanie is ready to ship or made to order.
Burgundy MARI – when it may be a good choice
This beanie works well if you are looking for a lightweight yet noticeably cosy handmade beanie for autumn and spring, with a visible halo and a turn-up above the forehead. It pairs well with calm, everyday outfits when you want natural fibres and a deep, rich colour instead of classic black or grey. It may be less comfortable if you have a very sensitive scalp or do not tolerate the slight itchiness typical of alpaca and mohair.
Natural fibres and feel against the skin
The beanie is made from two yarns: a main yarn of 100% baby alpaca and a companion blend of super kid mohair, mulberry silk and merino, creating a light, springy knit with a soft halo. Against the skin, you can feel the characteristic cocooning quality of alpaca and mohair, but if your skin is highly sensitive, the beanie may feel slightly itchy. If that matches your experience, it may be worth considering merino styles or other blends available from NitkoweLove.
Shape, turn-up and fit
MARI is a fitted beanie with a fixed turn-up that adds extra thickness over the ears. The single rib stitch gives it elasticity and helps it stay in place well without excessive pressure on a standard head circumference. Its lightweight construction means the beanie does not fall heavily towards the back, but instead settles into an easy, slightly elongated shape. As each piece is handmade with knitting needles, there may be slight differences in the way the halo sits and in the degree of visual fullness, but all remain within one intended fit standard.
Everyday wear
- Lightweight, thin alpaca and mohair knit – gives a noticeable sense of warmth on cooler in-between days, without the typical overheating associated with very thick winter beanies.
- Turn-up over the ears – adds an extra layer in a key area, which improves warmth in windy weather and makes it easier to adjust the height on the forehead.
- Rib stitch from top to bottom – helps the beanie adapt well to the shape of the head and stay in place securely, which matters for everyday wear and more active days.
- Knit with a visible, soft halo – gives the beanie a lightly fluffy look and subtle elegance, but may not suit those who prefer completely smooth beanies without any fibres showing.
- High resistance to pilling – helps limit quick visual wear, so the beanie keeps its appearance through regular use over several seasons.
- Burgundy red – brightens everyday outerwear in neutral colours while still remaining a muted, deep shade of red.
- Handmade on knitting needles – allows me to control stitch density and elasticity, which translates into reliable fit and practical comfort in everyday wear.
Finishing details and care
The beanie is finished with a removable eco-leather NitkoweLove label, which can easily be taken off before washing. If you would like to build a set, take a look at the matching shawls, wraps and snoods, where you will find accessories that work well with burgundy red, including options if you are looking for, for example, an alpaca scarf. To help preserve the qualities of the fibres and the look of the knit, I recommend hand washing in lukewarm water and drying flat; you can find more tips in the wool care guide.
