JANKA Thick Women’s Wool Beanie 48 Nugat
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The thick JANKA women’s beanie from the classic collection is a handmade beanie with an extended back, made from 100% sheep’s wool, designed for winter and cold autumn days. When this beanie is a good choice
The JANKA in 48 Nougat works well if you are looking for a thick wool beanie for real winter cold, but in a non-turn-up style with a slight oversized effect. It is a good option for everyday outings, walks and commuting, when warmth matters more than a perfectly smooth fit under a hood. The neutral brown tone works naturally with simple, muted outfits, both for winter and late autumn. If you do not tolerate the slightly scratchy feel of wool against the scalp at all, this model may be too demanding in direct contact.
The wool and how it feels on the skin
This beanie is made from a single strand of thick 100% sheep’s wool, with a light fuzzy finish on the surface of the knit. In practice, this means a clearly noticeable, natural wool feel: softer than traditional rustic wool knits, but still with the potential for a slight itch, especially on a very sensitive scalp or forehead. The yarn is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (Class I), which confirms it has been tested for harmful substances.
If you have very strong sensory sensitivity, it may be worth wearing this beanie over a thin headband or choosing a gentler merino style from the shop instead.
Natural wool needs gentle care – you can find detailed guidance in the wool care guide.
Shape, volume and fit
JANKA is a non-turn-up beanie with an extended back, creating a characteristic pointed top or a soft slouch at the back, depending on how you arrange it. The ribbed stitch gives the knit elasticity and helps it adapt to the shape of the head, while keeping its clearly thick, chunky texture. Without a turn-up, there is no double layer around the ears, but the thickness of the yarn and the dense stitch structure still create a solid barrier against the cold. This beanie has an oversized character: it does not fit close in a technical, sporty way, but wraps the head with a little ease, which is worth keeping in mind if you plan to wear it under a fitted hood.
Everyday wear – what that means in practice
- Thick single-strand knit – the beanie works as a thermal barrier that offers real protection from the cold in winter conditions and frosty weather.
- Single rib stitch – the flexible structure adapts better to the head circumference, helping the beanie stay securely in place when moving without causing pressure in specific spots.
- Non-turn-up shape with an extended back – gives you a looser, more relaxed look and extra room for hair worn low, at the cost of not having a double layer of knit over the ears.
- Smooth surface with a light fuzzy finish – visually, the beanie works well with classic, simple outfits, while the slight halo highlights the natural character of the wool.
- Moderate resistance to pilling – natural pilling that appears over time can be removed with a fabric shaver, helping the beanie keep a neat appearance for longer.
- Skin contact typical of sheep’s wool – offers good heat and moisture regulation, but for sensitive skin it may require an extra layer underneath.
- Hand-knitted – each piece may vary slightly in stitch placement, which gives it an individual character and allows careful control of the knit’s thickness.
