VARELLA Merino Wool Beanie 57 Grey-Brown
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
VARELLA is a lightweight merino wool beanie made from 100% Baby Merino, with a smooth surface and an elongated back for the in-between seasons. You can check availability by clicking on the size — this will show whether a given option is ready to ship or made to order.
When it works well
This style works well in spring and autumn, when you want light coverage without the bulk of a winter hat. The grey-brown shade is understated and easy to pair with everyday clothing if you prefer a calm, unobtrusive colour. It is a good choice if you like beanies that fall softly at the back rather than a short, close-fitting shape. If you are looking for a hat for hard frost or a clearly thicker layer over the ears, this version may feel too light.
Yarn and feel when worn
I used 100% Baby Merino — a fine merino wool with a smooth surface and no halo. In practice, this gives a gentler feel against the skin, which is why this model is also suitable for sensitive skin. The yarn is certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, and it needs careful care — the beanie should be hand washed; you can find a short guide here: wool care.
With regular friction, moderate pilling may appear over time, which is worth keeping in mind especially if you often wear it under a hood.
How it sits on the head
This is a no-turn-up style, so the line at the forehead looks lighter and less layered. The single rib stitch gives the knit some stretch, so the beanie adjusts without feeling stiff. The elongated back gives it a more relaxed drape and a softer profile than a classic short beanie. If you prefer hats that sit very close to the head and finish right at the crown, this shape may feel too loose at the top.
Key points for everyday wear
- Lightweight knit – better suited to transitional weather than to the height of winter.
- 100% Baby Merino – natural yarn with a soft feel against the skin, without the roughness some wools can have.
- Smooth knit surface with no halo – the beanie has a cleaner, more minimalist look and does not have a fluffy finish.
- Single rib stitch – the fabric moves as you wear it, which helps with everyday fit.
- No turn-up – there is no extra layer at the edge, so the beanie looks lighter and less bulky.
- Elongated back – the shape sits more loosely at the back of the head instead of creating a short, sporty outline.
- Handmade on a knitting machine – the knit keeps an even structure and a consistent finish throughout the piece.
Matching accessories
If you would like to change the look of this model, you can choose a beanie with pom-pom in the same yarn colour. You can also pair it with matching shawls, wraps and snoods if you would like a coordinated set from the same accessory category.
