VARELLA Beanie 100% Baby Merino Wool 33 Bright Blue
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
VARELLA beanie in 100% Baby Merino is a lightweight, smooth transitional beanie for autumn and spring, with an extended back and a clean, simple shape. Availability depends on the size selected – click your chosen variant to see whether it is ready to ship or made to order.
When it works best
This style works well when you want a light merino wool beanie for everyday wear in the transitional seasons, without extra bulk around the face. The bright blue colour adds a clear, cool accent, while the shape itself stays neutral and easy to pair with simple outerwear. It is a good option if you prefer a beanie that sits close to the head but has a slightly more relaxed back. If you need protection for very cold weather, a thicker style or one with a folded brim will be a better choice.
Yarn and feel against the skin
I used 100% Baby Merino, a yarn with a gentle feel against the skin, also suitable for sensitive skin. The smooth surface without a fuzzy halo helps reduce the prickly feel sometimes associated with wool, and the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certificate confirms that the yarn has been tested for harmful substances.
This wool needs careful care: the beanie should be hand washed; you can find a short guide here: wool care.
How it fits on the head
The beanie shape without a folded brim gives a lighter visual effect than styles with a turn-up edge. The extended back softens the line of the hat and makes it look less technical, so it does not end evenly at the nape. The single rib stitch moves with the knit, allowing the shape to adapt to the head without stiffness. If you are looking for a very compact, short fit above the ears, this cut may feel too relaxed at the back.
What this means in wear
- Lightweight thickness – better suited to transitional weather than to the middle of winter.
- Single rib stitch – the knit is flexible, so it adjusts more easily to the shape of the head.
- No folded brim – there is no extra layer or added bulk at the forehead and temples.
- Extended back – the shape sits more loosely at the back instead of ending right at the nape.
- Smooth knit surface – the beanie has a clean, neat look without a fluffy effect.
- Pilling resistance: medium – with regular wear, light signs of use typical of natural wool may appear over time.
- Handmade on a knitting machine – the stitch is even and consistent, while the finished piece still keeps its handmade character.
Matching pieces
If you would like to change the look of this style, you can choose a matching pom-pom for your beanie in the same yarn colour. Neck accessories from the same yarn category and with a similar purpose also pair well with it: shawls, wraps and snoods.
