NANA Turn-Up Beanie 100% Baby Merino Wool 53 Rosa
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The NANA turn-up beanie is a handmade, medium-weight merino wool beanie for autumn and winter, made in smooth rib knit in colour 53 Rosa with a cool blue undertone. To check whether a specific piece is ready to ship or made to order, click your chosen size.
When this beanie is a good choice
The NANA style works well if you are looking for a fitted turn-up beanie that covers the ears well without feeling overly thick. Thanks to the soft baby merino and smooth surface, it is a good option for people with sensitive skin who want to avoid the itchiness that can come with some types of wool. The medium-weight knit is suitable for everyday wear in colder months, but this is not an extreme winter style for long periods of standing still in freezing temperatures. If you prefer very loose, oversized hats, this close-fitting shape may feel too snug.
Baby merino and how it feels on the skin
The beanie is made from 100% baby merino with a smooth, non-fluffy surface, which helps reduce the risk of irritation in direct contact with the skin. The yarn is certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100, Class I, which means it has been tested for harmful substances and is suitable even for very sensitive users. If your skin is especially reactive or you have strong allergies, it is still worth trying it on briefly at home before wearing it for longer.
Shape, turn-up and fit
This is a classic beanie with a clearly defined wide turn-up, which can be arranged to cover the ears and forehead line well. The single rib knit makes the fabric flexible, so it moves with the head rather than feeling stiff. The beanie is designed as a fitted style – it sits close to the head, but thanks to the elasticity of merino it should not feel tight when the right size is chosen. The turn-up creates an extra layer around the ears, which increases warmth in that area without making the whole beanie excessively thick.
How this beanie works in everyday wear
- Medium-weight knit – gives noticeable warmth in autumn and winter in the city, while helping avoid overheating during frequent temperature changes such as going into shops or using public transport.
- Rib stitch all the way through – helps the beanie stay in place and slip less, which is practical for everyday movement.
- Turn-up edge – gives a double layer of knit over the ears, improving comfort on windy days and allowing you to adjust the height of the beanie slightly.
- Smooth, non-fluffy surface – reduces the risk of catching on jewellery or zips and makes the beanie easier to wear under a hood or helmet.
- Moderate resistance to pilling – means that with frequent use, small pills may appear, so it is worth limiting friction, for example under a rough hood, and removing them gently if needed.
- Hand-knitted with needles – allows me to control the yarn tension and the elasticity of the beanie, so it adapts better to the head and keeps its shape longer.
- Colour 53 Rosa with a cool, bluish tone – works well with muted winter outfits and pairs easily with grey, navy or black.
Small details and matching accessories
The beanie is finished with a small faux leather label, which can be unclipped for washing, making care easier and helping protect this detail from damage. If you like beanies with a pom-pom, you can choose a pom-pom made from the same yarn, in a colour matched to the NANA style. To create a set, you may want to add a shawl, scarf or snood from the matching shawls, wraps and snoods section, which makes it easier to put together a coordinated colour palette. To help maintain the qualities of merino knitwear, I recommend hand washing in lukewarm water; you can find more information in the short guide wool care.
