MARGARET Handmade Beanie Alpaca Mohair with Silk 8903/02 Black
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The black MARGARET beanie is a handmade, lightweight style in double rib, knitted from a blend of 100% alpaca and a mohair-silk yarn. It is thin, yet noticeably cosy on cooler days. Availability depends on the size you choose: some options are ready to ship, while others are made to order. You can check this after clicking your size.
When MARGARET is a good choice
This beanie works well if you are looking for a classic, slightly oversized handmade beanie for autumn and spring, with a soft visible halo and a calm black colour. The no-turn-up shape looks good with coats and jackets when you want to cover your ears without the bulk of a heavy winter hat. Because the knit is thin and breathable, it is not the right option for severe frost or for spending long periods outdoors without moving around. If you have very sensitive skin, it may be worth considering a different type of wool — more on that below.
Feel against the skin and material
The main yarn in pure alpaca is combined with an additional mohair-silk thread, creating a light, soft knit with a visible halo and good resistance to pilling.
The material feels pleasant, but the presence of alpaca and mohair may cause slight itchiness for people with very sensitive skin on the scalp or forehead.
If you have reacted before to fuzzy wool yarns, it is safer to choose styles made from a smoother yarn, such as merino, rather than alpaca and mohair beanies.
Shape and fit in the MARGARET line
MARGARET is a classic, slightly longer beanie without a turn-up that creates a subtle oversized effect at the back of the head. The double rib stitch helps the knit stay in place around the head while remaining flexible and adapting to the shape. The lack of a turn-up means there is less layering over the ears, which you may notice in strong wind — this is more of a hat for moderate cold than a thick, fluffy winter beanie.
How this beanie feels in everyday wear
- Thin, lightweight knit in alpaca and mohair — gives noticeable warmth on cooler transitional days without weighing down your head or hairstyle.
- Double rib throughout the full height — offers a flexible fit for different head sizes without feeling tight.
- Oversized beanie shape — comfortably fits low-tied hair or loose waves, which makes everyday styling easier.
- No turn-up — reduces bulk around the face and works better with coat collars, but leaves a single layer of knit over the ears.
- Soft visible halo on the surface — adds visual softness and slightly tones down an intense black, making it easier to pair with other textures in your wardrobe.
- High resistance to pilling declared for the yarn used — with proper care, this helps the beanie keep its appearance for longer.
- Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificate for the yarn — this means the material has been tested for selected unwanted substances in textile products.
Finishing details and matching accessories
The beanie is hand-knitted with two strands held together, which requires even yarn tension so the rib stitch stays consistent throughout the full height. There is a detachable NitkoweLove eco-leather label on the edge, which can be removed easily before hand washing.
If you would like to build a set, you can pair it with matching shawls, wraps or snoods, including styles made from soft wool yarns that visually complement a black beanie. To keep the knit in good condition, it is worth following the rules of wool care, especially gentle hand washing and drying flat.
