Burgundy LAURIN – when it’s a good choice
This beanie works well for a cold autumn and a typical winter if you’re looking for a natural, fairly warm hat in a calm, deep burgundy shade. The turn-up style and springy knit make it easy to wear day to day, from city walks to commuting to work. It will not be the right choice if you need a very thin beanie that stays invisible under a hood. If you have a very sensitive scalp, it is worth noting the possibility of slight itchiness.
100% alpaca – how the material feels
The beanie is made from 100% alpaca yarn with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification. The surface has a delicate halo, feels noticeably soft to the touch, and gives a pleasant cocooning feel. Against the skin, it has the feel of a natural, springy fibre rather than something slippery or completely smooth.
For exceptionally sensitive skin, this type of fibre may feel slightly itchy. In that case, beanies made from smoother yarns are usually a safer option in my collection.
Turn-up shape and fit
LAURIN is a classic turn-up beanie, hand-knitted with a double rib stitch, which gives the knit good stretch and helps it stay securely on the head. The folded brim creates a double layer over the ears, increasing protection from the cold and helping the beanie sit more steadily. The beanie shape adjusts to the head circumference without strong pressure, while keeping a slight, natural softness at the crown.
Everyday wear – useful details
- Medium-weight knit – suitable for both a cold autumn and a typical winter in the city, without the feel of a heavy hat.
- Double rib throughout – the stretchy construction helps the beanie adapt to different head sizes and reduces slipping during movement.
- Turn-up over the ears – the double layer of alpaca wool offers clearly better protection from the wind than a single layer, while keeping good breathability.
- High resistance to pilling – in practice, the alpaca yarn used keeps its neat appearance for a long time, so the beanie does not need frequent refreshing.
- Hand-knitted – I control the density and elasticity of the stitch, which helps prevent the beanie from stretching out excessively in normal wear.
- Delicate halo on the surface – the beanie has the look of a natural alpaca wool hat and may catch small bits of lint, which is worth keeping in mind if you wear it with very smooth coats.
- Distinct burgundy colour (3650) – the tone sits between red and burgundy, so the beanie can work as a standalone colour accent in more muted outfits.
Matching accessories and wool care
You can add a matching pom-pom in the same yarn to this beanie if you prefer a more finished look without changing the material properties. For a coordinated set in the colder months, you can also choose shawls, wraps or snoods from the matching handmade accessories section. With alpaca beanies, proper hand washing and drying flat are especially important – you’ll find detailed guidance in the wool care guide, which helps the knit keep its shape and properties for longer.
