WATA CUKROWA Women's Alpaca Beanie 18 Mustard
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
A thin, lightweight women’s turn-up beanie made from alpaca and merino from the WATA CUKROWA collection in colour 18 Mustard. With its distinctly fluffy, soft surface, it works well as a warm everyday winter beanie. To check whether a particular piece is ready to ship or made to order, click your chosen size.
Where this beanie works best
I recommend this style for cool autumn days and a typical city winter, when you want a lightweight yet cosy handmade beanie in natural fibres. The mustard shade, sitting between yellow and orange, adds a clear accent to more muted jackets and coats. In very harsh mountain wind or during long periods standing in freezing temperatures, it may feel too thin for those who get cold easily — in that case, a thicker style would be a better choice. It also makes a good gift option if the person you have in mind likes soft, slightly oversized turn-up beanies.
Material and feel against the skin
This beanie is made from a yarn with a high proportion of alpaca wool, with added merino wool and a small amount of synthetic fibre to help stabilise the knit. This fibre blend gives a noticeable lightness while keeping the warmth and the soft, slightly fuzzy feel typical of alpaca wool beanies. For some people who are very sensitive to wool, it may feel slightly scratchy around the forehead or ears, so in that case it may be worth considering a style made from a gentler yarn.
How it sits on the head
This is an oversized turn-up beanie, hand-knitted by me in a single rib stitch. The rib structure helps it stay in place around the head while still stretching in wear and adapting to the shape. The turn-up adds a double layer over the ears, while the top has a softer, more relaxed shape without any stiff structure. On a very small head, the oversized effect will be more noticeable; on a fuller head shape, the beanie will sit closer to the head.
How this beanie behaves in everyday wear
- Thin, lightweight alpaca and merino knit — gives the warmth typical of an alpaca beanie, but without feeling heavy on the head.
- A clearly visible soft halo on the surface — creates a cosy, fluffy look and feel, but needs gentle handling as it has moderate resistance to pilling.
- Rib stitch throughout the full height — improves flexibility and helps the beanie adapt to different head shapes without strong pressure.
- Turn-up edge — adds an extra layer over the ears and forehead, which improves warmth on windy days.
- High natural fibre content and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification — help limit the skin’s contact with incidental chemical residues from the yarn.
- Autumn–winter season — makes it easy to wear with both lighter transitional jackets and a winter coat, without needing to switch styles.
- Hand-knitted finish — means each beanie is slightly different, and any variation in the way the fibres sit is a natural result of working with this yarn.
Finishing details and extras
The top of the beanie is neatly closed so the rib stitch flows naturally into the softly gathered crown, without a bulky seam. On the side there is a removable eco-leather logo tag with the Nitkowe Love branding, which can be easily taken off for washing to help reduce wear. If you are looking for a set, you can pair this beanie with matching shawls, wraps and snoods in coordinating colours, including alpaca options.
To help preserve its shape and the structure of the fibres, I recommend hand washing in lukewarm water, without fabric softeners, and drying flat. You can find detailed guidance in the wool care guide.
