NANA Handmade Beanie Baby Merino Wool 19 Grey Autumn-Winter
| I do my best to show the colours as accurately as possible in the photos, but sometimes my phone has its own ideas ;) Please remember that shades may also look slightly different depending on your screen settings. If I have added several photos, it is worth looking at all of them together for the best colour reference. |
The grey NANA beanie is a handmade, classic merino wool beanie of medium weight, designed for the autumn and winter season, with a slightly extended back and a smooth ribbed texture. To check whether a specific piece is ready to ship or made to order, click on your chosen size.
When this beanie is a good choice
The NANA style works well if you are looking for a versatile, plain everyday beanie without a turn-up, in a neutral grey shade that is easy to pair with other pieces in your wardrobe. The medium-weight knit is suitable for cool autumn days and winter in the city, but in very severe frost it may need extra protection, such as a hood. The extended back is a good option if you do not like very close-fitting beanies or want to leave a bit of room for your hair. If you are looking for a very thin beanie to wear under a helmet, or an extremely thick and fluffy hat, this style may not meet your expectations.
Baby merino and sensitive skin
The beanie is made from 100% baby merino with a smooth, non-fuzzy surface, which helps reduce the “itchy” feeling sometimes associated with some types of wool. The yarn is certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 and tested for harmful substances, which may matter if you pay close attention to what touches your skin, especially around the forehead and ears. In my wear tests, this type of knit has worked well for people with sensitive skin, but if you have a strong individual wool allergy, it is always worth keeping in mind that reactions can vary.
Shape and feel when worn
This is a classic beanie with no turn-up and a slightly extended back that creates a soft fold above the nape when worn. The rib stitch gives the knit some elasticity, so the beanie sits close to the head without feeling fully tight, allowing it to adapt naturally to different head shapes. In practice, this means it stays securely in place during everyday movement without strong pressure along the forehead. If you prefer very firm, structured shapes, this softer and more flexible fit may feel too relaxed.
Everyday wear – what is worth knowing
- Medium-weight merino knit – gives noticeable warmth in autumn and winter temperatures without the feel of a heavy, bulky hat.
- Single rib throughout – improves the fit around the head, so the beanie does not slip off easily when you move.
- No turn-up – reduces bulk around the face, making it easier to wear with fuller scarves and high collars.
- Extended beanie back – gives a little extra room for hair and allows for a slightly looser shape when worn.
- Smooth, non-fuzzy knit surface – helps reduce snagging on earrings, glasses or jacket zips.
- Medium resistance to pilling – with frequent wear, you can expect small natural pills to appear over time, and it is worth removing them occasionally.
- Hand wash only – it needs gentle care, but this helps the knit keep its shape and elasticity for longer (see the wool care instructions for details).
Finishing details and matching accessories
The beanie is finished with a small eco-leather label designed to be easily unclipped before washing, which makes everyday care simpler. If you like a beanie with pom-pom, you can add a pom-pom made from the same yarn in a matching shade of grey. To create a coordinated set for the colder season, you can also choose a shawl, snood or scarf from the same neck accessory category: see matching wool accessories.
